Little Havana’s SW 5th Street is an underused and uninviting block that currently divides Jose Marti Park. The Transform 5th project is led by Urban Impact Lab, who specializes in designing meaningful and creative shared spaces. The purpose of the project is to connect the two halves of Jose Marti Park via the transformation of SW 5th Street into a pedestrian-only plaza. This project supports recommendations from past Healthy Little Havana projects such as the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design report that prioritized the creation of “complete streets” to link parks and public spaces as well as the Little Havana Me Importa Master Plan.
